Power Up with South Bay Ford and SCE Partnership

Ford is partnering with Southern California Edison (SCE) to proactively support the growing number of electric vehicle (EV) owners in Los Angeles. Ford's California Power Response program is a collaboration between Ford and SCE that allows Ford EV owners to earn money for reducing their energy use during peak grid demand periods.

Demand for Ford Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles have come a long way since their release. Today, Ford EVs offer comfort, impressive ranges, fast charging capabilities, and luxury experiences and are more environmentally friendly than traditional combustion engines. Californians are leading the way in EV adoption.

What is the SCE Emergency Load Reduction Program?

ELRP is a voluntary program designed to enhance California’s electric grid resilience by helping grid operators manage demand during peak usage or emergencies. It's a way to avoid rotating outages while minimizing costs to ratepayers associated with building additional standby resources.

What can cause an Electrical Grid Emergency?

An electrical grid emergency can happen at any time despite careful planning for sufficient electricity supply and electric grid transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Common reasons for grid emergencies are when extremely hot weather drives up electricity use in summer, making the available power supply scarce. This usually happens in the early evening hours when consumers return home and switch on air conditioners, lights, and appliances.

Severe fires, earthquakes and heat storms also threaten and affect transmission lines, causing unplanned power plant outages and grid emergencies.

How South Bay Ford is Making EV Ownership Easier

All Ford EV owners have access to the largest public charging network in North America with no annual fee[1].

Ford plug-in vehicles from model year 2021 or later are eligible for the Southern California Edison (SCE) Emergency Load Reduction Program (ELRP). SCE customers who own or lease a Ford EV can apply for the program at https://www.ford.com/grid/capr.

Depending on how you set up your service, Ford will send you a notification of an upcoming grid event and automatically update your vehicle’s charging settings at your home location that you identified during the enrollment process. By participating in grid events, you will receive $1/kWh[2] of energy reduced during the event timing.
